A DIRECTORS NOTE
"GOLD" gives us an idea that time does not flow normally. It looks like time is not running on geographical criteria, but on the movie’s characters, who establish their time within the screenplay. This story employs few actors and tends to be a minimalistic motion picture. The use of numerous pauses and minimalistic scenes, which essentially impose no normal reading time but rather pose shooting plans and angles, provides the main axes on which the story is based. The characters go through grave dramas and these make them more reticent. The fear of a family disintegration, overcoming of age limits, the sexual complexity of blood, tendency to fix the communication lines between mother and sons, the contact with adolescence, loneliness and fear of abandonment are some of the storylines intertwined in this highly profiled emotional interchange.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Project Title: “ Gold “ ( feature film )
The project named “ Gold “ is a screenplay written by an upcoming talented and multi-award winning Albanian director, Bujar Alimani.
His last film “ Amnesty “ was the first Albanian film to be funded by the European Commission through Eurimages. "Amnesty" was the first official participation of Albania in Berlin International Film Festival, and also continued its journey into many other international film festivals and an official Albanian candidate for Foreign Language Annual Awards at the Oscars.
I met Bujar when I lived in London in 2005 and since then we expressed our willingness to make a film together. Bujar was my preferred choice when I applied for funds at the Cinematography Centre of Kosovo.
"GOLD" was awarded a grant of €50.000 by the CCK and to be coproduced by us, Gegnia Film and other Albanian, French and Greek companies.
At the moment we are at the preproduction stage where we are recruiting the actors for various parts, discussing possible filming locations and preparing to complete the production team. Luli Bitri is to play the main part. She was nominated for her role in the Best Actress category at the Sarajevo Film Festival and at the Copenhagen International Film Festival.
