Montenegro, Kosovo join showcase for first time

LONDON — Producers from Montenegro and the Republic of Kosovo will take part for the first time in European Film Promotion’s Producers on the Move program at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Sehad Cekic of Montenegro’s Cut Up Prods. and Valon Jakupaj of Kosovo’s Gegnia Film will join 27 other specially selected participants for the event, which runs May 18-21.
The program is designed to bring producers together with like-minded colleagues from across the continent to network, showcase their achievements and forge co-production opportunities.
Producers also participate in pitch sessions, speed-date meetings and more to enable them to connect with sales companies, financiers and previous participants.
Now in its 14th year, Producers on the Move is supported by the Media Program of the European Union and participating EFP member organizations that chose.
Last year’s edition, which brought together 25 producers, has seen 17 already collaborating on 15 co-productions.
Polish producer Lukasz Dzieciol and Danish producer Jesper Morthorst, who met during the 2011 edition, are set to go into production on Anna Kazejak’s teen crime film “The Word” in June. The film, backed by the Danish and Polish Film Institutes, will shoot in Poland and with post done in Denmark.
Several of this year’s 29 participants have films in the Cannes lineup. Viola Prestieri produced Valeria Golino’s “Honey,” which is playing in Un Certain Regard, and exec produced Paolo Sorrentino’s Competitition title “The Great Beauty.” British producer Andrea Cornwell produced (alongside Michael Kuhn) Ruairi Robinson’s sci-fi film “Last Days on Mars,” which will preem in Directors’ Fortnight.
The other participants chosen for the 2013 edition are Anton Iffland Stettner (Belgium), Konstantin Bojanov (Bulgaria), Zdenka Gold (Croatia), Viktor Taus (Czech Republic), Mikael Chr. Rieks (Denmark), Kiur Aarma (Estonia), Jussi Rantamaki (Finland), Mathieu Robinet (France), Zaza Rusadze (Georgia), Jochen Laube (Germany), Giorgos Karnavas (Greece), Andrea Taschler (Hungary), Thorkell Hardarson (Iceland), Connor Barry (Ireland), Gilles Chanial (Luxembourg), Labina Mitevska (Macedonia), Marleen Slot (Netherlands), Hans-Jorgen Osnes (Norway), Agnieszka Kurzydlo (Poland), Joao Matos (Portugal), Anca Puiu (Romania), Mira Fornay (Slovak Republic), Maria Zamora (Spain), Erika Wasserman (Sweden) and Joelle Bertossa (Switzerland).
